Five apps, compared on what their own store listings say. Last checked October 2026.

The disclosure, before anything else

I build The Long View, and it is one of the five apps below. So this page is one developer comparing apps with an incentive, stated openly. Everything here comes from the App Store listings, read on 18 October 2026. Where a fact could not be verified from a listing, I have left it out. Ratings are written the way the store shows them, with the month. The Google Play listings were not checked for this page, so it says nothing about Android.

All five show a price of Free on the App Store. Several sell subscriptions inside, which each section notes where the listing says so. The Long View has one rating so far, which says little yet, and it is the youngest listing here by rating count.

Quit Vaping and Escape the Vape

Quit Vaping

The listing is the longest feature list of the five. It includes a buddy system (the listing calls it the first ever), a community forum, a future quit date, streak, vape, pod or e-juice and puff tracking, a money calculator, craving and trigger trackers, guided breathing and meditation, a journal and a daily selfie. A newer Quit Plan section covers daily reduction goals and a future quit date. The listing also mentions a Quit Coach subscription. On the store since October 2019.

Escape the Vape

Built only for quitting vaping, the listing says. A vape-free day counter, a money saved tracker, a home screen widget, milestones and badges, a health timeline, guided breathing and a community. Its listing says "Slipped up? Reset and keep going." On the store since October 2019.

QuitSure and Smoke Free

QuitSure

Different in kind. The listing describes 6-day and 6-week programs of daily content that takes about an hour a day over six days. It says you can keep smoking during the program and quit when you are ready, and it describes the method as based on cognitive behavioral therapy and related approaches. The listing also includes a tracker, a coach and a community. Its name carries "Quit Smoking & Vaping."

There is a published study of it. Goldgof, Mishra and Bajaj, "Efficacy of the QuitSure App for Smoking Cessation in Adult Smokers: Cross-Sectional Web Survey," JMIR Human Factors, 2024, surveyed users who had completed the program. Of 1,286 who had finished more than 30 days earlier, 80.1% reported at least 30 days of abstinence after finishing. The limits are large. It is a survey of completers only, self-reported, with no comparison group, and two of the three authors work for QuitSure. It is a start, not a verdict.

Smoke Free

The most-rated app here by a wide margin. The listing says the core app is free to use and free of ads, with more than 40 evidence-based techniques, a craving log and map, and statistics on time quit, money saved, cigarettes not smoked and life regained. A Pro subscription adds daily missions, an AI Quit Coach and more. A further service, Blitz your Quit, adds an advisor. The listing is written around cigarettes.

The Long View, stated as disclosure

Mine. For smoking it shows years and money won back, a reason photo and a daily check-in. For vaping it does less, on purpose. It counts vape pods and nicotine pouches alongside cigarettes, as counts only, and makes no life-years claim for them, because no published life table exists for vaping. The reasoning is on the page about quit vaping apps.

It also has a craving button (a 3-minute breathing screen with your reason photo), health milestones, a Quit plan that walks down to zero over days, weeks or months, widgets, App lock and sync with end-to-end encryption on Premium. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Android phones and tablets, Wear OS, Windows and Linux. See Premium for what each plan includes.

How to choose

  • You want a person alongside you. Quit Vaping's buddy system, or the communities in Escape the Vape and QuitSure.
  • You want it simple. Escape the Vape.
  • You want a guided program, not a counter. QuitSure. Check its limits above first.
  • You want the most statistics and a long track record. Smoke Free.
  • You smoke as well, or want counts and money without a years claim. The Long View.

Whichever you choose, a free quitline covers every kind of nicotine. In the US, that is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Nothing on this page diagnoses, treats or prevents any condition, and none of it is medical advice. Store listings, ratings and prices change and differ by region, so check each current listing. No guarantee is made or offered about the accuracy of any figure or calculation on this site. Talk to a doctor or a quitline about stopping. In the US, that is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
