What's new in The Long View

Every release, newest first, in plain words.

The Apple apps and the Android and Windows apps carry their own version numbers, so each entry names both. A store can take a few days to approve a release, so an entry may appear here a little before your store offers the update.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac 21.11. Android and Wear OS 1.4.18.

  • The yearly plan shows its 7 days free before you subscribe, for anyone the store offers it to.
  • On a Mac, Your Devices names the computer by its own name.
  • Fixed bugs like all apps do.

Android and Wear OS 1.4.17.

  • New subscribers get the first week of the yearly plan free, on Android as on iPhone, iPad, Mac and this website.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac 21.10. Android, Wear OS and Windows 1.4.16.

  • The yearly plan shows what it costs a month and how much it saves over paying monthly.
  • Fixed bugs like all apps do.

Windows 1.4.15.

  • Screen readers name the app window as The Long View where they used to say "unknown".

Android and Windows 1.4.14.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac 21.9. Android, Wear OS and Windows 1.4.13.

  • On a Premium device that is not signed in, Sync now tells you what to do: sign in with your email to sync this device.

Mac download 21.8 and Windows 1.4.12.

  • The Mac app from this website updates itself. When a new version is ready, press Install now: it downloads, checks the update is ours, replaces itself and opens again.
  • The Windows app offers a new version as soon as it opens, installs it, and opens again when it has finished.
  • In Windows Settings, a note about the app lock turning itself off shows once, at every window size.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac 21.8. Android, Wear OS and Windows 1.4.10.

  • Signing out of your account on a device also signs that device out on our server, so its old sign-in stops working everywhere.
  • The Windows app installs an update only when it is signed by Little Bird Trading LLC, exactly.
  • On the Mac, the section you are on stays easy to read in the sidebar, whether or not the window is in front.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac 21.7. Android, Wear OS and Windows 1.4.9.

  • Screen readers name every button, switch, stepper and row on every platform, and section titles are read as headings.
  • On iPhone, iPad and Mac, a tap anywhere on a day in History opens that day.
  • Your reason caption and the NEXT label grow with your text size, and on iPhone and iPad a long press on a tab shows its name in large type.
  • Exporting tells you when your file is saved, and asks you to pick another place when it could not be.
  • The desktop upgrade prompt names the feature you tapped, and calls the small window by its name.
  • Updates from inside the Windows app pass their signature check and install.
  • On the Mac download, a Premium button takes you to the Premium card in Settings.
  • Text on the lightest accent colors is darker and easier to read.

Apple 21.5. Android, Wear OS and Windows 1.4.7.

  • A countdown to your daily check-in on every screen, widget and watch tile. It goes once you have checked in, and a switch in Settings turns it off.
  • Choose light or dark text over your reason photo.
  • The number each screen is about, the screen titles and the tab bar all follow the text size you chose, and the iPhone keeps your phone's own text size setting.
  • The Apple Watch shows its whole line, and a round Wear OS watch shows the app's full name.
  • Setting a reason photo keeps the iPhone screen at the width of the phone.
  • History stays quick however long you have used the app.
  • The card you share says the same thing the screen says.
  • Three colors in the light palette are darker, so they are easier to read.
  • The free features are listed in full, and screens no longer offer Premium for things that are already free.

Apple 21.4. Android and Wear OS 1.4.6.

  • The app lock tells you when it had to switch itself off.
  • Your Devices keeps its list and scrolls to the last device.
  • Graduation follows your account onto a new device.
  • The Today header names the day the screen is showing.
  • Going offline keeps a signed-in customer signed in.
  • At large text sizes the edit pencil stays on screen and screen readers can find it.
  • A typo in the price per pack keeps the price you had.
  • On an iPad, the app pictures an iPad.
  • Three subscription situations now show the right status.
  • Onboarding questions, the money figure, the plan dialog and the log sheets lay out cleanly at every size.
  • Removing your phone's PIN no longer leaves the app blocking screenshots.

Apple 21.3. Android and Wear OS 1.4.5.

  • The headline number is easy to read without a reason photo.
  • The widget step says plainly that the widget is part of Premium.
  • The Android widget preview shows the real time.

  • The app lock works on the Mac.
  • Windows screen readers can read the app.

  • The Mac sidebar takes the room it needs and gives the rest of the window to the screen.

  • The Android date picker keeps the day you picked in every time zone.
