Two different things: the app on your device, and this website.

The app

The app runs on your device. Using it asks for no account to create and no email address, and no payment details are stored by the app itself.

Premium on a second device is the one exception, so here it is plainly. To carry one subscription to your other devices you give the app your email address, we send a six digit code to it, and you type that code in. The address is what links those devices to each other. It is the only personal detail we hold, we do not send anything else to it, and deleting the account from the app's settings deletes it. Everything else on this page is unchanged by that: the address identifies the subscription, and it cannot read your history, because nothing we hold can.

Without a subscription, nothing you log ever leaves your device.

If you subscribe, your check-ins can follow you between your iPhone, your Android phone and your PC. They are encrypted on your device before they leave it, with a key that is made on your device and is never sent to us. We store only the encrypted result, so we cannot read your history, and neither can anybody who obtains a copy of what we store.

That key is shown to you as a recovery code, in the app's settings. It is what lets a second device read your history, and it is the only thing that can. If you lose every device you own and have not kept the code, we cannot recover your history for you, because we do not hold the means to. That is the same fact as the sentence above, stated from the other side.

Android's Auto Backup also backs your data up to your own Google account and restores it on a new device. That is your own account, and we cannot read it either.

This website

As of August 2026, thelongviewapp.com is static pages plus one analytics tool, Microsoft Clarity. It sets cookies and records how pages are used: which links get clicked, how far people scroll, and a replay of that movement through the page.

What it cannot capture is anything you type. Clarity masks the contents of input boxes in every one of its modes, and that cannot be switched off, so the age, sex and smoking history you enter into the calculators is never recorded.

The math itself happens on your own device: there is no server working out your numbers. The results are hidden from Clarity too.

That second part was added on purpose. Your results appear as ordinary sentences on the page, outside any form box, and an earlier version of this site did let those figures reach Clarity. They are now hidden from it.

Clarity is used to see which pages are worth keeping and where they confuse people. If you would rather not be included, browser tracking protection and most content blockers stop it, and the site works exactly the same without it.

The hosting provider keeps standard server logs, the kind almost every website keeps (things like IP address, requested page and timestamp), to operate the site and watch for abuse.

This section describes the site as it stands today. If that changes, for example if an analytics tool is added later, this page will be updated to say so at the same time.
