The best quit vaping apps in 2026
Sorted by what each one actually does, because "best" depends entirely on whether you plan to stop on a date or step down over months.
Written by Lee H. Last reviewed 31 August 2026. Every figure below was read off the App Store listing on that date.
The disclosure, and it is an unusual one
I build a quit smoking app, and it deliberately will not do this job. The Long View's whole point is putting a years figure on a habit, and there is no published life table for vaping the way there is for cigarettes: the exposure is too recent for decades of follow-up. So it refuses, and there is a separate page explaining that refusal in full.
Which means I am not on this list and have nothing to sell you here. Take that for whatever it is worth.
If you want to count puffs and step down: Puff Count or VapeFree
Puff Count: Quit Vaping Now (Rodger Studio)
- iOS
Free to download. 4.3 stars from about 2,600 ratings, on the store since November 2019, last updated August 2026. Its listing claims over 800,000 users.
Built around the count: every puff logged, nicotine strength tracked, daily limits you set, and usage graphed daily, weekly and monthly so you watch the line go down. If your plan is to taper, this is the shape of app that matches it.
VapeFree: Quit Gently! (TerraTechna)
- iOS
Free to download. 4.5 stars from about 270 ratings, new by comparison, on the store since December 2024 and updated August 2026.
Same idea, stated more explicitly: its listing sells a "gentle method" as the alternative to cold turkey, with puff and nicotine tracking and a custom step-down plan. Fewer ratings behind it than Puff Count, which usually just means a younger app.
The honest caveat on both. Counting puffs is much harder than counting cigarettes. A cigarette is a discrete object you finish; a puff is a decision you make dozens of times an hour without noticing. Every app here relies on you logging accurately, and that is a bigger ask for vaping than the equivalent is for smoking.
If you want other people in it with you: Quit Vaping
Quit Vaping (Jonathan Kopp)
- iOS
Free to download. 4.9 stars from about 11,600 ratings, the largest rating count of any vaping-specific app on this list. On the store since October 2019.
It is the most feature-dense app in the category and it is not close. Its own listing runs to a buddy system where you and a friend track each other, a community forum, a quit date, streak and puff and pod tracking, a money calculator, craving and trigger logging, guided breathing and meditation, a journal and a daily selfie.
That is either exactly what you want or far too much, and which one depends on you. The buddy system is the genuinely distinctive part: quitting alongside one named person is a different mechanism from quitting alongside a forum, and nothing else on this list does it.
If you want it plain and cheerful: Escape the Vape
Escape the Vape (Woke Enterprises)
- iOS
Free to download. 4.9 stars from about 1,900 ratings, updated August 2026.
Days vape-free, money saved, badges at milestones, and a community. The listing's tone is deliberately light, offering the money you save on "new shoes, perhaps? Your degree? Extra guac?" That reads as either friendly or flippant depending on your mood and on how the quit is going, which is a real consideration for an app you are meant to open on bad days.
Nothing here is doing anything the others cannot. It does the standard things without burying them, which for a lot of people is the feature.
If you want an app from a health department: My QuitBuddy
My QuitBuddy (Australian Department of Health)
- iOS
- Android
Free. 4.8 stars from about 490 ratings. The only app on this list rated 12+ (the others are 17+), and the only one published by a government.
It covers smoking and vaping in one app, and adapts to whether you are thinking about quitting, working towards a date, or already stopped. Cravings help, distractions, progress tracking and a community of other users.
The reason to pick it is the same reason to pick quitSTART on the smoking side: nobody behind it is trying to sell you an upgrade, and the health claims have a public health body's name on them. If that matters to you, it outweighs a longer feature list.
Two more, for completeness
- I Am Sober (I Am Sober LLC) is a general sobriety tracker with about 185,000 ratings at 4.9 stars, built around a daily pledge and a large community, and people use it for nicotine among everything else. If you are quitting more than one thing, or if what you want most is the community, it is the biggest one there is.
- PuffPal (MIU Digital) attaches your progress to a virtual pet dragon that grows when you stay under your daily limit and regresses when you do not. On the store since October 2025 with about 18 ratings, so there is not much to judge it on yet. Mentioned because gamification genuinely works for some people, and this is the most committed version of it in the category.
Any years figure for vaping is somebody's guess wearing a decimal point.
The one thing to be suspicious of
If a vaping app tells you how many years of life the habit has cost you, or how many you have won back, ask where the number came from. For cigarettes there are decades of cohort studies and a measured per-cigarette rate to build on. For vaping there is not, because the products are too new for the follow-up to exist yet.
That is an argument that a precise-looking figure about it is invented, and an invented figure is worse than an honest blank, because it is the one thing in the app you cannot check.
Money is different, and money still works. What you spend on pods or juice is a real number you can count, and the cost calculator on this site handles it if you enter what a pod costs you and how long one lasts.
Nothing on this page diagnoses, treats or prevents any condition, and none of it is medical advice. App details were read from public store listings on 31 August 2026 and listings change. No guarantee is made or offered about the accuracy of any figure or calculation on this site. Talk to a doctor or a quitline about stopping. In the US, that is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
