Alternatives
QuitNow! alternatives, compared honestly
It is the only one built around other people. That is also the thing people leave it for.

The disclosure, before anything else
I build a competing quit smoking app, The Long View, and this website exists to support it. That makes me the wrong person to tell you QuitNow! is not good enough, so I am not going to. Mine cannot replace what QuitNow! does, and this page says so directly.
Everything here is checkable on the store listing, and the section that mentions my own app is marked and kept short.
What QuitNow! does that nothing else on the list does
QuitNow!, published by Fewlaps SL, does the standard things: time smoke-free, cigarettes not smoked, money saved. Underneath that sits the part that actually distinguishes it, a social layer with member profiles, direct chat with other people quitting, and shared milestones, available in a large number of languages.
It is the center of the app. Smoke Free keeps chat with other quitters inside Blitz your Quit, a separately paid plan, and Kwit lists community groups; Flamy, EasyQuit, Smoke Tracker and quitSTART are all things you do alone. QuitNow! also hosts a monthly live session with a smoking-cessation expert. If the thing that would genuinely keep you quit is other people who are in the same week you are, QuitNow! is the answer on this list, and swapping it for an app with a nicer dashboard would be a downgrade dressed as an upgrade.
Its App Store listing also describes an Apple Watch app and a home screen widget, which makes it one of the more complete apps in the category. If either matters to you, there are separate guides on quit smoking apps for Apple Watch and on quit smoking widgets.
Why people go looking, and where to go
- "I do not want a profile." The single most common reason, and a fair one. A profile is required for the community, because that is how other members see you, so it is not really optional if the community is why you are there. If you want the tracking without being visible to anyone, Smoke Free requires no account and treats an email as optional backup, while EasyQuit and Smoke Tracker ask for nothing at all. Smoke Tracker states that it runs offline with no cloud sync. The privacy guide shows how to verify claims like these on the listing.
- "The community was not for me." Peer support is genuinely motivating for some people and genuinely draining for others, and neither is a character flaw. If a chatroom is one more thing to keep up with, Kwit gives you structure without an audience, and Smoke Free gives you a large amount of private detail about your own quit.
- "I want to cut down first." Flamy has a Tapering Off program and EasyQuit has a Slow Mode that builds a step-down plan, both as the main route.
- "I do not want to pay." QuitNow! is free with in-app purchases: PRO is a subscription inside the free app, or a separate app you buy once. If you want no paid tier at all, quitSTART from the US National Cancer Institute has none.
The part of a community nobody mentions until it happens to them
A chat room is a real feature and it is why people stay with this app. It is also the single most common subject of its one star reviews: being removed for disagreeing with a moderator, arguments that have nothing to do with smoking, and people using the room to meet each other. Read a few of those before you decide, because a support group you have been ejected from is worse than no support group, and it takes your reason for choosing the app with it.
None of that makes the community a bad feature. It makes it a feature with a failure mode, which is worth knowing in advance.
There is a second thing worth checking yourself, and one reviewer already did it. The app cites the World Health Organization for its health milestones. That reviewer went to the WHO and found the timings did not match, posted the specifics, and the developer replied that they would check the statements again. Whatever app you end up with, health figures with a named source you can go and read beat health figures with a logo attached to them.
The question none of them answer
Every app named above, mine included in its own way, is answering "how long have I been quit?" QuitNow! answers it with other people alongside you, which is the most human version of that answer available. It is still that question.
The other one, the one people are usually circling by the time they search for alternatives, is what smoking has cost and how much of it comes back. That is measured in years of life, and it does not need an app or an account to find out. The quit smoking calculator runs it in your browser, nothing you type is sent anywhere, and the methodology page shows the sources behind every number in it.
Where The Long View fits, stated as disclosure
Mine, so read it as disclosure. The Long View has no community, no chat and no profiles, and it is not going to grow them: it asks for no account and no email address, which is incompatible with other members being able to see you. If peer support is what you need, this is not it, and QuitNow! is.
What it does instead is turn your own history into one estimate in years, shown beside a photo of your reason for quitting and kept current by a daily check-in. The core is free forever, and premium is built to be finished with: after a year of smoke-free days you cancel and keep everything.
Common questions
Does QuitNow! require an account?
A profile is required for the community feature, since that is how other members see you. The tracking is the part that works without engaging with anyone, but the community is the main reason to pick QuitNow! in the first place, so the profile is best treated as part of the deal.
Is QuitNow! free?
Free to use, with in-app purchases for extra features. Inside the free app PRO is a subscription, and QuitNow! PRO is also sold as a separate app for a one-time price, which makes it one of the few apps in the category with a way to pay once.
Which quit smoking app has an Apple Watch app?
QuitNow!'s own App Store description mentions an Apple Watch app. A description is not a guarantee, so the reliable check is the "Apple Watch" line in the Information section of the listing, which Apple generates itself. The Apple Watch guide explains how to read that.
Can I move my quit date to a different app?
Not automatically. None of these apps import each other's history, so switching means typing your quit date in again and starting any craving log or diary from scratch. Worth knowing before you install a replacement.
Nothing on this page diagnoses, treats or prevents any condition, and none of it is medical advice. App features and prices change, and store listings differ by region, so check the current listing yourself. Talk to a doctor or a quitline about stopping smoking. In the US, that is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
Swapping the only app with a community for one with a nicer dashboard is a downgrade dressed as an upgrade.
