Choosing an app

The best quit smoking app for iPhone

Every app here is on the App Store and free to download. They are built for different people.

The best app is the one you still open in week three. So this page sorts the iPhone apps by what each is for, instead of ranking them. The details come from each app's own App Store listing, and the full comparison goes deeper on every one.

Pick by what you want

  • The most numbers: Smoke Free. Time smoke free to the second, money saved, health indicators and a craving diary, all in the free tier. Pro adds missions and a coach. No account needed.
  • Levels and rewards: Kwit. The quit is built as a game with levels and achievements, plus craving techniques. A subscription unlocks the full program.
  • Other people: QuitNow! A community of people quitting at the same time, with chat. The community needs a profile.
  • Cutting down first: Flamy or EasyQuit. Both build a step-down plan. Flamy uses an account to sync; EasyQuit asks for none.
  • Nothing leaves the phone: Smoke Tracker. Runs offline with no account. Check the developer is Ivan Terekhin, since other apps share the name.
  • Free with nothing to buy: quitSTART. From the US National Cancer Institute, with tips, tracking and games.

Listings change and differ by country, so check the store page before you count on a feature being free.

Where The Long View fits

The Long View is mine, so it is left off the list above. It is built for one question: what has smoking cost you in years of life expectancy, and how much comes back the longer you stay quit. On iPhone it shows that number on your home screen and lock screen widgets, and on Apple Watch. It is free to download and needs no account.

On Android instead?

Most of these apps are on Google Play too. The free quit smoking apps for Android page covers what each free version keeps there.
