Nicotine pouches
How to quit Zyn: counting, cutting down, and the number nobody can give you
What a tracking app can honestly do for a pouch habit, and where it stops.

The short answer
You can count what you use, see what it costs, and plan a way down. You cannot get an honest years-of-life figure, and this app does not pretend to give one.
The Long View counts pouches (and vape pods) alongside cigarettes. They are counts only. There is no life-years claim attached to them.
What the FDA has and has not said
In January 2025 the US Food and Drug Administration authorized the sale of 20 ZYN products, each in 3 mg and 6 mg strengths, to adults aged 21 and over. The FDA states that authorization does not mean the products are safe or "FDA approved." This page makes no claim about the health effects of pouches in either direction. For that, read the FDA announcement and ask a clinician.
Why there is no years figure
The estimate in this app comes from a life table plus published work on how cigarettes shift it. That work follows large groups of people for decades. Nicotine pouches have no comparable record. The same reasoning is set out on the page about quit vaping apps.
So for pouches the app does the part that is only counting.
How to use the app for a pouch quit
- Count how many you use. Log the pouches in the daily check-in. A day with pouches in it is a number you record, and your history carries on.
- Watch the money. Pouches add up quickly: a can a day at $6 a can comes to $2,190 a year.
- Use the craving button. It opens a 3-minute breathing screen with your reason photo on it, so you have something to do for three minutes when the urge hits.
- Pick stopping at once or cutting down. If you also smoke, the Quit plan walks your cigarettes down to zero over a length you choose: days, weeks or months. For pouches, set your own daily limit and log against it. The guide on stopping at once or cutting down gives the research for both routes.
- Keep your reason in view. Set a photo of why, and put the widget on your home screen.
The app runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Android phones and tablets, Wear OS, Windows and Linux. See the download page, or Premium for what each plan includes.
Common questions
Can The Long View track Zyn?
It counts them. The app counts pouches, and vape pods, alongside cigarettes. These are counts only. The app does not estimate years of life for pouches, because no published life table exists for them.
Does the app say how many years Zyn costs me?
No. The years estimate rests on decades of research on cigarettes smoked per day. Nicotine pouches have no equivalent, so any years figure for them would be invented.
Can a quitline help with nicotine pouches?
Quitlines are set up for nicotine in general, so it is worth asking. In the US, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
